Opportunities
We welcome motivated scientists eager to tackle big questions across evolution, behavior, and neuroscience.
ph.d. students
Our interdisciplinary research offers multiple pathways to join the lab, each with a unique focus. What unites us is collaboration—building connections and generating insights across ecology, evolution, molecular biology, and neuroscience. We seek students who are curious across disciplines, and all lab members actively engage with the vibrant scientific communities at Dartmouth College, the Geisel School of Medicine, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Students must first be admitted to the Dartmouth MCB graduate program before joining the lab. MCB does not have direct admissions to particular labs. Current Dartmouth graduate students in MCB should email Emily Behrman to discuss rotation opportunities.
Molecular & Cellular Biology (MCB) graduate program
Students must first be admitted to the IND graduate programbefore joining the lab, IND does not have direct admissions to particular labs. Current Dartmouth graduate students in IND should email Emily Behrman to discuss rotation opportunities.
Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth (IND) graduate program
Students identify a faculty member before applying to the Dartmouth EEES graduate program. Please contact Emily Behrman directly with your CV, relevant coursework, and a brief description of your research experience and interests to discuss opportunities before you submit your application.
Ecology, Evolution, Environment & Society (EEES) graduate program (Ecology and Evolution track)
All PhD programs include tuition, a living stipend, and access to a variety of campus resources in affiliation with the Guarini School of Graduate Studies. Applications are due in December for start in the autumn of the following year (see each program website for exact dates). GRE scores are not required.
Postdoctoral associates
We welcome motivated postdocs eager to tackle big questions in evolution, behavior, and neuroscience. Candidates should have a strong, independent PhD and be willing to pursue external funding and fellowships.
To apply, send a CV, cover letter describing your research interests and goals, and the names of three references to Emily Behrman. Highlighting how your background and goals align with the lab helps evaluate fit.
Undergraduate researchers
We welcome undergraduates interested in exploring evolution, behavior, and neuroscience.
Dartmouth students: Dartmouth has a number of mechanisms to help support undergraduate research. Contact Emily Behrman with your CV, a brief description of your research interests, and your availability to discuss opportunities.
Non-Dartmouth students: Apply through the ASURE summer program (applications typically due in February—check the website for details).
Research specialists
We are seeking research specialists to support ongoing projects in evolution, behavior, and neuroscience. This position is well-suited for recent graduates seeking research experience prior to graduate school, as well as for scientists with training or experience in Drosophila, neurogenetics, molecular genetics, or related experimental approaches who are interested in contributing to cutting-edge research outside of an academic career path.
Interested applicants should email Emily Behrman with a brief description of their research experience and a CV.
